Center for Psychosocial Wellbeing Launched
The launching of the ‘Center for Psychosocial Wellbeing’ was organized by BIED on 6th October, 2015. BIED invited renowned guest speakers from National Institute of Mental Health, Dhaka University and Ministry of Education to speak on this occasion. Theme of the program was ‘Dialogue on Dignity for Psychosocial Well-being and Mental Health of Children and Adolescents in Bangladesh’.
Dr. Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury, Vice Chairperson of BRAC and Member of the Board of Trustees of BRAC University, Professor Syed Saad Andaleeb, Ph.D. Vice Chancellor of BRAC University; Salma Begum (Project Director), Establishment of Autistic Academy-Ministry of Education; Dr. Farzana Rahman (Assistant Professor) National Institute of Mental Health; Dr. Mehtab Khanam (Professor) Department of Education and Counseling Psychology, Ms. Anisa Haq, Program Head- BIED enlightened the program through their inspiring speeches. Guests from various organizations like BRAC, BRAC University, University of Dhaka, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Icddr,b, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Sajeda Foundation, Shishu Hospital, James P. Grant School of Public Health, Population Council, ShareNET, Reproductive Health Services Training and Education Program (RHSTEP), Population Services and Training Center (PSTC), Red Orange, Shomporker Noyashetu, PHULKI, Unite for Body Rights (UBR), Underprivileged Children’s Educational Programs (UCEP), Daily Star, Prothom Alo, Dhaka Tribune, and BRAC Communication attended the center opening program.
World Mental Health Day 2015
Every year Gender Justice & Diversity Program, BRAC, Counseling Unit and BIED, BRAC University jointly celebrate the “World Mental Health Day”. This year the day was celebrated on 15th October, 2015 at BRAC University Auditorium and the theme of the day was “Dignity in Mental Health”. After welcoming address by Mr. Khan Ahmed Murshid, Director, Advocacy, BRAC University, a panel discussion was held. This session was moderated by Dr. Nishat Fatima Rahman, Assistant Professor, BIED. The key issues of the discussion were levels and barriers faced by mental health practitioners, how to overcome the challenges and the panel of mental health specialists attended a question-answer session. Ms. Anisa Haq, Program Head, BIED, delivered a brief speech on the activities of the Center for Psychosocial Wellbeing of BIED.
