Since the beginning of 2016, BIED has partnered with Lego Foundation, BRAC Tanzania and various government and influential policy bodies in Tanzania to initiate the play lab project in the country. Currently, there are about 80 play labs established in the Dar-es-salaam and Mbeye regions of Tanzania, reaching approximately 2400 children. The model has been very successful in the country as the children have demonstrated remarkable progress in speaking, self-confidence, reasoning, interaction in play lab and at their home. Furthermore, an overwhelming majority of the parents have acknowledged to gaining knowledge on child care through program engagement and experienced greater productivity at work due to assurance of their children’s safety.
The success of the play labs in Tanzania have also garnered attention from KPMG, LEGO and Their world and BIED remains committed to further scale up of the project in the country through continued technical assistance. Working towards that mission, BIED is hosting the next Play Consortium in Tanzania in November 2017.
