Dialogue on Play-Based Learning
On 10th January, 2017, BRAC Institute of Educational Development (BIED) organized dialogue on play-based learning for members of the private sector. Participants of the session included- Participants of the session included Ms. MirijamSchoning, Director Learning though Play in early Childhood (LtPEC), LEGO Foundation, AlineVillette, Senior Initiatives Manager– LtPEC, LEGO Foundation, Jill Popp, Senior Research Manager, LEGO Foundation, Dr. Mushtaque Reza Chowdhury, Vice Chairperson, BRAC, Safiqul Islam, Director, BRAC Education Program, AsifSaleh, Senior Director, BRAC, Dr. Erum Mariam, Director, BIED, BRAC University, AnisaHaq, Program Head, BIED BRAC University, senior faculty members and researchers of BIED as well as resource persons and members of Non-Government Organizations & International Non-Government Organizations and teachers, head-teachers and other school personnel members.
Moderated by AsifSaleh, Senior Director, BRAC, the purpose of the meeting was to share the value of learning through play, to highlight how the play model facilitates early childhood development (ECD), and to increase awareness on learning through play for the stakeholders to reassess their own school’s/institutions’ methodologies.
The meeting concluded with a clearer understanding on the importance of play-based learning and a promise to develop effective steps as way forward to reassess and foster play in the curriculum and learning methodology of schools and institutions.
